Countering Euroscepticism through Education and Empowerment of Young People as European Citizens (YOUTH EU)

March 24, 2021

The project Countering Euroscepticism through Education and Empowerment of Young People as European Citizens is funded by the European Union’s Europe for Citizens program. The aim of the project is to uncover the sources of Euroscepticism among young people in EU countries and among EU candidate countries.

The project focuses on educating and empowering young people through webinars, workshops and an organized trip to Brussels where young people will communicate and exchange views with EU officials.

The main activities of the project are:

  1. Organization of 10 webinars for students to be led by an EU expert. The webinars will educate participants about the EU, its institutions and policies.
  2. Workshop in Belgrade with 15 selected participants from the webinar. The workshop will consist of a discussion moderated by experts from the institutions involved in the project, exploring the attitudes of young people about the future of the EU, the main problems they face and proposals for solutions.
  3. Trip to Brussels for 6 extraordinary young participants from Serbia. Based on the performance at the workshop in Belgrade, 6 young participants will be selected to participate in the international workshop in Brussels. At the workshop, participants will discuss their thoughts and concerns regarding the future of the EU, its weaknesses, as well as suggest possible solutions in an international environment with 4 EU representatives, with the help of moderators.

Based on these activities, experts for different European policies will write four policy documents in order to combat Euroscepticism. In order to empower young people with tools to counter Eurosceptic narratives among their peers, a handbook with practical examples and strategies will be created during the project.
