At the premises of the European Movement in Serbia today, an agreement was reached on the joint action of pro-European parties and movements – Serbia Centre SRCE, Movement of Free Citizens, Party of Freedom and Justice, and Solidarity movement – within the Platform for a European Serbia.
Building on previously established good cooperation in coordination of activities towards the European Union, it was confirmed that there is a clear pro-European political alternative to the current regime, with the aim of bringing together all pro-European and democratic forces in Serbia. Only existence of a clear pro-European political option can offer the citizens of Serbia a European future.
It was agreed that other actors will also be invited to join, on the basis of clearly defined criteria and principles, political consistency, and readiness for joint action both within the country and towards the institutions of the European Union and its Member States.
Participants agreed on the principles on which further cooperation among pro-European parties, organisations and movements will be based. It was agreed that the Platform remains open to political and social actors who clearly, consistently and unequivocally share programmatic and political commitment to Serbia’s full membership in the European Union; respect European values, the rule of law, fight against corruption, democratic institutions, free media and fundamental civil rights; whilst rejecting anti-EU rhetoric, accepting EU policies and standards, including the criteria for membership, and are ready to engage in responsible, fact-based communication with citizens of Serbia, institutions of the European Union, and European partners.
It was specifically concluded that Serbia’s European path must entail genuine reforms, renewal of institutions, free and fair elections, and Serbia’s clear alignment with European standards and policies. Serbia must not be held hostage by the current regime, which uses the European path as a phrase while undermining European values on a daily basis. It is therefore the duty of pro-European actors to offer citizens a serious, responsible and democratic alternative.
