| This week, the European Parliament convenes for its second plenary session of the year. President Ursula von der Leyen will face questions on Wednesday morning as she debates the EU’s vaccine strategy, while High Representative Josep Borrell will answer questions from MEPs on Tuesday regarding the recent crackdown in Russia. The Council will be holding the EU-Ukraine Association meeting on Thursday.

European Parliament
It’s plenary week in the European Parliament, and many topics are up for debates and voting. On Monday, President of the ECB Christine Lagarde will debate the annual ECB report with MEPs. On Tuesday, MEPs will discuss the de facto abortion ban in Poland. Debates will also be held on transforming the “make-take-dispose” economy into a circular economy by 2050. The Parliament will vote on the Recovery and Resilience facility designed to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 with €625.5 billion in grants and loans being made available, as well as on the anti-trafficking directive, temporary relief for slot utilisation at airports, and reducing inequalities and in-work poverty.
European Commission
The agenda for the Commission this week includes a meeting of the College on Tuesday to discuss a joint communication on a renewed partnership with the Southern Neighbourhood as well as a report under the Visa Code on return and readmission. President von der Leyen will face questions on Wednesday morning in the Parliament regarding delays in vaccine deliveries, contracts and data transparency, and the recently launched system to authorise exports of COVID-19 vaccines, and High Representative Borrell, fresh back from his trip to Russia, will address the parliament regarding recent events there.

Council of the EU
The Council will be holding a meeting discussing the status of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, encouraging moves towards further political association and economic integration despite challenges presented by COVID-19. Topics on the agenda include aid packages sent to help partner countries cope with COVID-19 and recent election observation missions.
